I love reading series, but it is tough to keep up with the new books and when they are coming out, especially if you are tracking a dozen or more series and favorites authors.
This website just might be the solution for me (and you, if you are in the same situation): Any New Books?
According to the blurb, the site will help you "...Discover new books every week. Receive FREE weekly notifications about new books covering the subjects you love"
It seems to be more genre based than series or specific author based.
Anyone out there trying it? What do you think?

Reading Stats -- January through April
It's been some time since I posted stats.
For the year, I'm at 26 books. Not too shabby, considering I'm in school and regularly reading case studies and textbooks. Just under half were read in January (12).
Total page count: 8,931 pages.
It's a strong start to the year.

Bethany's March Bibliometer
Now that the first quarter of the year is done, I'm crunching book stats to make sure I'm track to hit my 85 books this year.
March was a good month and if I keep this pace for the whole year, I'll have no problem. April has a pending plane trip coming, so I'm hopeful I'll finish an extra title so that I can get ahead a little. I'm hoping only to get one book ahead because that means all my flights will be scheduled correctly...
So, March stats:
7 books
2204 pages (including parts of Anna Karenina not counted in the book total yet)
Avg. 71 pages/day
YTD Totals
21 books
6814 pages

Bethany's February Bibliometer and the Choice to Stop Reading a Book
February's reading total seems skewed, but that's because of Anna Karenina, which doesn't count as a whole book until I'm done with it.
I also started a book in February that I decided I'm not going to finish. I rarely do that, but after 100 pages, I've decided that the content just isn't something I really want to put into my head. I realized I'd rather be reading more Anna Karenina than this particular book and that was the deciding factor to me.
Here's the thing: The book is good. It was given to me by the author to review and I'm grateful for that. I've been asked to review a few things in the past that were just so bad that I couldn't do it. Such is not the case here. It comes down to subject matter.
Surely, you say, reading is supposed to stretch the reader. Yep, I would agree. But I also know as a reader that I have boundaries. I have things that make me uncomfortable. Sometimes I make myself push through them; such was the case the first time I read "The Cider House Rules."
This book is about inner city youth that get caught up in drug running and violence. The problem for me is that it's too close to what I do. I work for an organization trying to keep good kids from going down that road, to stay on the path to academic success to break the cycle of poverty. When I read the book, my heart just breaks because I know that the circumstances for the main character are too true for too many teenagers today. The violence and hopelessness are just too much.
It's OK to put books down for whatever reason; this title just made me remember this in a new way.
So, here are the February totals:
5 books
2304 pages
82 pages/day

Stacie's November Bibliometer
I'm in the count down to the end of the semester (t-minus 14 days). But other than showing up for class, my last big effort is to finish a four page paper - of which 2.5 pages have been written.
Until then, enjoy the following books stats for the month of November:
Nine Titles
2,165 pages
1 re-read that I did not recall the first read on (The Broker by John Grisham; not sure what exactly this says for his career)
Three YA-Fiction titles that my 10yo reluctant reader liked (yay!)
2 titles for class
Until next time, happy reading.

Stacie's October Bibliometer
October rocked as far as reading goes:
8 books
3,190 pages
Truth and confessions version: some of those titles were started in September. And I grouped all of my articles as a single title of 175 pages. When you read that many articles, it should count for something right?
Year to Date:
49 books
22,281 pages
Since I started keeping a list in 2001, I've read almost 370,000 pages. If I keep up that pace, I'll be able to pass 1,000,000 pages in 18 more years.
Real facts, just like you find under your Snapple lid.

October was a pretty good reading month for me. Here's a look at the month's statistics:
October 2010

During October, I also hit the 700th book in my list since I started keeping one. The 700th book was Diana Peterfreund's Tap & Gown. Glad the "honor" went to a fun title.

Stacie's September Bibliometer
I have to admit, September was a good month.
Six books, 3,133 pages or 522 pages per book.
That puts me at 41 books for the year, still trending at 53 for the year.
Fun Facts:
2007: September meant 22 books for the month (which isn't the all time high)
2003: First month back at work after maternity leave -- 0 books read
2010: Included the re-read of Harry Potter Books 5 & 6, at 6 times and 4 times respectively.

Stacie's August Bibliometer
I remember my delight to discover that my cohort here was also a reader who kept a log of the titles read. It validated my own quirkiness.
This month, I managed four books, which is my average count per month for the year. However the total pages at 2,389 indicates that everyone of those books was pretty fat. Most mass market paperbacks average 350.
See, quirky behaviors lead to quirky stats.
Total for the year, I'm at 35. All indicators point to this being a low reading year. If I keep up the current pace, I'll hit 53.
I've kept a list since 2001, topping 100 5 of the nine years. It's kinda fun to look back to the pre-marriage year and see the number at 168, the year of my first baby at 53, and last year at 103, which is slightly above the average. Some day, I'll look back at this year, and realize how my new role at work impacted it. And when the number tops 100 again, realize how far I've come in balancing work and life. Just like it did after those other significant events.
A quick glance says that I'm reading less books, but more pages. In 2009, my average page count per book was 329; this year is 456.
Ah, quirky stats galore.

Bethany's August Bibliometer
Reading stats time again...
August was 7 books, one more than in May, June and July.
Total pages read, 2871 for an average of 89 pages a day.
I'm 13 books behind my YTD total from 2009. It's all the lawnmowing, I'm sure, as a new homeowner, that's cutting in to what used to be reading time.
Seven books in a month is still way above average given that most people who are readers read something like a dozen books in a year. (I read 13 books in October of 2007... of course two of those were kids books and five were graphic novels...)
Still, I feel behind. Some year, I'm going to break the 100 book threshold. It's just not going to be this year.

April ended last week, so bibliometer reading time again.

2010 YTD Totals:

Word Nerd's pretty close to last year's pace of reading.
Also, Word Nerd missed reporting back in March the end of her literary year (like a fiscal year, but with books.) She started tracking books read on March 20, 2002, so the literary year is March 20-March 19.
For LY 2009-10, Word Nerd read 82 books. Her eight year total since the list began is 655.
That's a lot of books.

March 2010 Bibliometer
Word Nerd's a little late posting her reading stats for last month. She's not been reading as much especially now that it's spring and she has a lawn and flowerbeds to maintain. Nevertheless, she's still squeaking in books here and there.

Another month, another bibliometer reading:
February 2010
7 books
2,491 pages
89 pages/day average
YTD
14 books
4,455 total pages
Word Nerd did the math that if she's ever going to crack 100 books in a year, she's got to read 8.3 of them every month. So far for 2010, that means she's 2.6 books behind. 2008 was the closest year she came to 100 (with 98 total read). To get to 100, Word Nerd feels like she'd have to cheat and read lots of shorter YA or graphic novels or something that reads faster than a 350-page novel.
Sigh. She's got Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell waiting to be read. Surely, that's long enough to count as two, right?
