Word Nerd has an over-abundance of books (even for her) checked out of the library and stacked on her floor right now.
She thinks she'll get through them all. (That's if she doesn't trip over the stack, inflicting some kind of bodily harm before then.)
Here's the current pile:
Sleep Tight, Anne Frasier
Bahamarama, Bob Morris
The Book Thief, Markus Zusak
Dzur, Steven Brust
The Cygnet and the Firebird, Patricia McKillip
All the King's Men, Robert Penn Warren
Destiny, Alex Archer
Dead Girls Don't Wear Diamonds, Nancy Martin
Some Like it Lethal, Nancy Martin
Firestorm, Rachel Caine
The Cinderella Pact, Sarah Strohmeyer
If she tries to go to the library and check anything out again, somebody please stop her.

I hear you! My TBR pile is out of control. But I love it - it's a towering pile of pages teeming with possibility :)
And yes, some of us need a special monitor to go off when we try to enter a bookstore or the library - something embarassing, like a public announcement of each of the titles we have at home waiting for our attention.
I've got several piles myself. I have a pile of public library books and audio books, UWO library books, and newly purchased books. Then I have the books I have to read for my classes this semester. We should start a support group. If nothing else we could give each other summaries and save ourselves time reading. I don't know what I would do without my books though.
Let me know how All the King's Men is.
Do not fret, little Nerdette, your condition is in your genes! Your 2nd cousin in Tulsa (moi) has the same condition! A dozen books sit in my car, waiting their return to our most awesome library system -- where more are waiting pick up! It's like Christmas every day for book lovers!

I stumbled upon a compensating behavior that seems to work well for me when booklust strikes --
go ahead, shop away at bn.com, fill up that virtual cart. Then, before making the purchase official, just check what the library has. . . for me, either the library has everything . . .or by this time the thrill is gone, I close the bn window and a new thrill emerges -- my bankcard still has money! :)
